What is laser skin resurfacing?

For many years, lasers have been utilized to treat a wide range of skin conditions, both cancerous and non-cancerous. Laser resurfacing is used to treat a variety of skin conditions. The latest generation of CO2 lasers uses short, pulsed light energy or continuous light beams delivered in a flowing motion pattern. These lasers precisely remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage to surrounding areas. This new technology has revolutionized the ability to rejuvenate sun-damaged, wrinkled skin. Laser resurfacing is now a leading treatment option for reducing facial lines and scars.

Unlock your skin’s full potential with fractional CO2 laser resurfacing.

The revolutionary CO2 laser is an excellent treatment for patients suffering from severe sun damage, deeper wrinkles, uneven tone and texture, and acne scars. It also offers the benefits of skin tightening, a smooth and even complexion, and a radiant glow with just one session.

While Fractional CO2 is an invasive laser treatment that can cause some discomfort, we prioritize our patient's comfort throughout the entire procedure. We use the most advanced numbing cream available, and the sensation typically felt is similar to a "pins and needles" sensation.

The treatment usually involves 2-4 sessions; Sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Spot treatment and resurfacing take 20 to 30 minutes, and the full-face treatment takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. Based on your specific treatment, healing will take place within 10-21 days.

The magic behind laser resurfacing

Cosmetic laser treatments selectively target uneven or abnormal tissues or hair follicles by comparing their color to the surrounding skin tissues. The laser emits a single-wavelength light directed at the selected area, and the heat generated by the light destroys the pigmented modules in the skin. Laser treatments work best when there is a significant contrast in color between the damaged skin or hair and the surrounding skin.

For example, patients with pale skin and dark-inked tattoos will see the best results with tattoo removal. Thick and dark unwanted facial hair, body hair, and hair in sensitive areas such as the bikini line are also easier to treat due to their distinct color contrast. In addition to removing unwanted pigmentation, laser treatments can encourage the production of new skin cells and collagen by eliminating damaged skin. As new skin cells emerge, the skin will appear younger and smoother.

Get ready to shine with Erbium/YAG laser resurfacing!

Erbium/YAG laser resurfacing uses a laser that emits a specific wavelength of light to target the skin's outermost layers. The laser's energy is absorbed by the water in the skin cells, which causes the cells to vaporize and peel away. The body's natural healing process is activated through this treatment, which triggers the production of new collagen and elastin fibers. These fibers help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improve skin texture and tone. The erbium/YAG laser is highly precise, allowing for targeted treatment of specific areas of the skin, which minimizes damage to surrounding tissues. Overall, erbium/YAG laser resurfacing is a safe and effective treatment that can provide long-lasting results for individuals looking to enhance the appearance of their skin.

Treat your skin like royalty with post-treatment care.

The stronger the settings, the longer the recovery time. For most fractionated CO2 treatments, treatment redness is expected to fade to light pink and then resolve within several weeks. Once the areas have healed, you can wear oil-free makeup to camouflage the pink-to-red color generally seen after laser resurfacing. Daily sunscreen application is necessary after the healing takes place. A broad-spectrum sunscreen is recommended. Use a sunscreen specifically formulated for facial use with an SPF of at least 30. Moisturizer is also recommended after healing. You can resume Retina A® and/or glycolic acid approximately six weeks after the procedure or as directed by Dr. Gharai.
